Expats in the CEE region can expect challenges and triumphs, but will undoubtedly learn to love where they live. The number of expats in the CEE region has fluctuated over the years, but a decent number remain today. The expat scene in Budapest is especially lively, since it has a large population of expats. In Budapest there are numerous expat clubs to get involved with. These include the British Women’s Association, the North American Women’s Association, Inter Nations, and many more. There are also clubs for people with specific hobbies, including a hiking groups and groups for sports fans.
Hungary is relatively accessible for expats because of an increased English language knowledge amongst Hungarians in recent years. This same increased usage of English also applies to the rest of the CEE region. In Budapest, there are English language options at the cinema, theatre, and bookshops, making the expat experience relatively easy. There are also several international grocery stores, meaning you can buy foods from home without leaving Budapest.
